After completing year 12, Gareth studied and worked in mechanical engineering, then owned and worked in a couple of small businesses. In 1988 Gareth had a major health scare which led to a change in his personal and career goals, leading him into financial planning. He didn’t want to see other families suffer financial losses unnecessarily if proper planning could avoid this.
As a result, in January 1990 Gareth joined National Mutual as an agent and Proper Authority holder, transferring to MLC in 1991 as he moved from concentrating only on personal business to also specialise in Corporate Superannuation. He and his wife Carmel founded Lifestyle Financial Services in 1994, merging his business with Irene Kay’s in 1996.
Now licensed through Financial Wisdom, the 12 member team at Lifestyle offer holistic financial planning and corporate superannuation services.
Financial services has seen constant regulatory reform over the last decade, the motives of which do not always seem to be in the best interest of our clients. In an effort to influence these changes for the good of the community, a group of concerned planning firms founded the Workplace Super Specialists Australia (WSSA), of which Gareth is a founding member and Treasurer. He has been intimately involved with all the WSSA’s activities since its formation in 2009; including drafting numerous Government submissions and providing evidence at a number of Parliamentary, Productivity Commission, and Senate Economic Committee hearings.
Gareth enjoys touring on his pushbike (particularly in the country), travel generally, most things to do with cars and bikes, and good food and wines.
Gareth is a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) an Accredited Mortgage Consultant (AMC) and a Justice of the Peace.
